Taken with an Oatmeal Can?

This photo was taken using an oatmeal can, a piece of photographic paper, and my finger. A pinhole poked into the side of the oatmeal canister created a camera obscura. As light passes through the hole it is projected upside down and can be captured on photographic paper. Before photographic paper, artists would create large camera obscuras using dark rooms and would trace the landscape. They would then turn the tracing into a painting. Because I was using photographic paper, I had to keep the pinhole covered until I was ready to capture a scene. In this case, my finger served as the shutter.
